Summer Time at Cross Oaks Ranch

August 05, 2014 by

Its summer time at Cross Outfitters and we are busy getting ready for what should be a great 2014-15 Season. With some good rain and fairly mild temperatures, we hope this will help produce some awesome animals for this fall.

The summer also means we have some new additions to our whitetail herd. It looks like we have had another great fawn crop this year. They are very important to the future of our ranch, so we are excited to see these little ones running around. We are fortunate to have some good mamas that produce and raise healthy fawns year after year.

With August here, we are also starting some of our early pre-season surveys and scouting. This will pick up more and more as we get closer to the season. So far we have seen some very nice bucks in velvet. We look forward to seeing them reach their full growth and the antlers they will carry with them this fall/winter. Should be some great Texas Trophy Whitetail Hunts this year.

We do have some Texas Meat Hunts still available, but expect them to start going fast as we get closer to opening day. If you would like to join us for a few fun days at the ranch and get some meat for the freezer, let us know!

Besides whitetail, the exotics are also having a great summer. Our fallow are also in velvet right now and we have seen some that are impressive! Our Blackbuck have also spread out even more on the ranch, with mature bucks taking their own territories. The Iranian Red Sheep and Axis are also doing great, with several trophies already running around.

We do have some Texas Exotic Hunts still available! Let us know if you have an interest or questions!

Plans are currently underway to expand our exotic hunting opportunities at the ranch. Besides our main exotics above, other species will be available. We look forward to sharing more options with our hunters this year and in the future.

Dove Season is also just weeks away! Good luck to all the Dove hunters out there! We do have some opportunities for hunting at the ranch, so let us know if you have any interest!

As we mentioned in our previous post, we have some new members to our Cross Outfitters family. Joining us is Cody Campbell, his wife Karen, and son Jones. Cody is the Cross Oaks Ranch Assistant Ranch Manager, and brings with him lots of previous experience. Cody will be a major part of our ranch and hunting operations. Karen will also be helping with managing the lodge and cooking. Jones will unofficially be in charge of entertainment when he can!

We look forward to all of our hunters getting to know them this season. They have already made some great contributions in a short amount of time and we are glad to have them helping us continually make the ranch one of the best around!

Also, Roger got married during the off-season! Congrats to him and Mae on a beautiful ceremony at the ranch. Mae was already part of our ranch family, but we are glad to make it official!

The season is getting closer everyday and we are excited for what should be a great year!

Check back for more updates!
